Canada
An Atlantic Centre was added to the Metropolis family on December 11th. The
new center draws together partners from across the four atlantic provinces with
domains of research focusing on citizenship and justice; health and well-being;
gender and immigrant women; economics; education; human rights and social justice;
culture and language; values and attitudes. More information on the newest addition

Citizenship and Immigration Canada
In recent changes to government, the new Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
Canada is Judy Sgro, a former City of Toronto Councillor. The Canadian Border
Protection Agency was also created with elements of Citizenship and Immigration
Canada, the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency and Agriculture and Agri-food
Canada.

Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC)

The latest issue of the PRI's publication Horizon, is now available on-line

The EU has funded a network of 19 established research institutes entitled "International
Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion (IMISCOE). It will be located at

Seventh National Metropolis Conference
The Seventh National Metropolis Conference will be held in Montreal, Canada
March 25-28, 2004. The general theme is "Immigration and Integration at
the Heart of the Debate." Plenary sessions will address: immigration and
the labour market; migratory flux as seen through the lens of international
relations; discrimination and citizenship; globalization and the challenges
of linguistic and cultural diversity; immigration and the arts. Registration

Ninth International Metropolis Conference
The Ninth International Metropolis Conference will be held in Geneva, Switzerland
September 27 - October 1, 2004. The theme will be "Co-operative Migration
Management: International, National and Local Answers." The call for workshop

Metropolis Notes
On the occasion of its 125th anniversary the Université de Montréal
has drawn up an honor roll of the most influential researchers in its history.
Included on the list is Montréal centre researcher, Jean Renaud, who
was recognized for his work on the longitudinal survey of new immigrants admitted
to Quebec.
Marco Martiniello has been appointed to the prestigious "la Chaire Francqui"
in Belgium.
