ISMU
The Foundation for Initiatives and Studies on Multi-Ethnicity (ISMU) was founded in 2001 with the transformation of the earlier Cariplo ISMU Foundation set up in 1991. The aim of the Foundation is to promote and support initiatives that will foster an understanding of and interventions in various aspects of a multi-ethnic society, in the historical context in which it is embodied. In particular, the core concern of the Foundation's work is migration in the broad framework of the processes now under way.
ISMU has published its Eighth Italian Report on Migrations covering events of 2002. This volume provides a picture of migration-related activity in Italy, the European Union and around the world. It can be found on-line at http://www.ismu.org
Norway
The Norwegian Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has posted a variety of material on immigration and refugee policies on its website at http://www.dep.no/krd/engelsk/ Of particular interest are both the statistics in Norway’s annual SOPEMI report and an on-going consultation on multiculturalism in Norway.

Eighth International Metropolis Conference
The Eighth International Metropolis Conference was held 15-19 September 2003 in Vienna, Austria. Nearly 700 international experts met to discuss the theme “Gaining From Migration” with an emphasis on how both sending and receiving countries can benefit economically and socially from migration. Please check on-line for workshop summaries and presentations that will be posted as they are made available.
Seventh National Metropolis Conference
The Seventh National Metropolis Conference will be held in Montreal, Canada March 25-28, 2004. The general theme is “Immigration and Integration at the Heart of the Debate.” Plenary sessions will address: immigration and the labour market; migratory flux as seen through the lens of international relations; discrimination and citizenship; globalization and the challenges of linguistic and cultural diversity; and immigration and the arts. The call for workshop proposals can be found on-line. Proposals are due by December 5.
Ninth International Metropolis Conference
The Ninth International Metropolis Conference will be held in Geneva, Switzerland September 27 – October 1, 2004. The theme will be “Co-operative Migration Management: International, National and Local Answers.” The call for workshop proposals can be found on the Metropolis website. Deadline for proposals is February 27, 2004.

Barrow Cadbury Trust
The Barrow Cadbury Trust is mandated to encourage a just, equal, peaceful and democratic society. One of its seven programmes, the Asylum, Immigration and Resettlement Program, is of particular interest. The main areas of concern for this programme are: 1) the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants; and 2) the settlement needs of refugees, where initiatives can effect change in policy and practice.
