Canada

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has launched a new publication, Canadian Housing Observer. It offers a review of housing in Canada, comments on important trends and issues, and links readers to new research. It can be found on-line at http://www.cmhc.ca

Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s new quarterly publication, The Monitor, features timely statistics on key movements in Canada. European Federation of National Organizations Working with the Homeless (FEANTSA)

FEANTSA hosts the European Observatory on Homelessness. In November 2002 it hosted a European Conference on Immigration and Homelessness. A number of reports from the conference can be found on-line at http://www.feantsa.org The reports include a European report on immigration and homelessness that covers the extent that homeless service providers in fifteen member countries are confronted with immigration issues. The report also encompasses a study of existing and proposed European legislation pertaining to immigration.

H-Migration

An international consortium of scholars and teachers, H-Net creates and coordinates Internet networks with the common objective of advancing teaching and research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. H-Migration is dedicated to enhancing scholarly communication about the global history of migration and the acculturation of immigrants and their descendants into their new society. Journal of Human Rights and the Muslim World
This new journal welcomes contributions that apply the traditional human rights framework in their analysis as well as those that transcend the boundaries of contemporary scholarship in this regard. The journal encourages inter-disciplinary and/or comparative approaches in an effort to encourage the emergence of new methodologies in the field. Metropolis Notes
Baha Abu-Laban, co-director of the Prairie Metropolis Centre, has been awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for 2003.
Michael Doucet has succeeded Valerie Preston as Chair of the Board at the Toronto Centre. Audrey Macklin and Scot Wortley have also joined the board replacing Michael Lanphier and Bob Murdie who have retired. Usha George has taken over as the Director of the Toronto Metropolis Centre from Morton Beiser. Elizabeth Gryte, Director of Settlement Programs for Citizenship and Immigration Canada has been awarded the Deputy Minister’s Achievement Award. Peter Li, Editor of the Journal of International Migration and Integration and economics domain leader for the Prairie Metropolis Centre, has been elected as President of the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association starting in 2004.
