Statistics Canada Papers

Statistics Canada publishes a regular series of papers on its website. A recent study of interest by Philip Oreopoulos has been added, it is entitled, Do Neighbourhoods Influence Long-term Labour Market Success? Migration Policy Institute

The MPI has an extremely valuable information source on information surrounding immigrants, refugees and ethnic minorities. Recent additions include data on foreign-born in the1991, 1996 and 2001 Australian Censuses; information on the foreign born in the United States and Canada; and an overview of the fundamentals of refugee protection. Portugal

Metropolis Portugal and the Luso-American Foundation has published an edited volume entitled Immigration and Place in Mediterranean Metropolises. Southern Africa Migration Project
The Government of the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) has awarded a grant of CDN$3million to Queen’s University’s Southern African Migration Project (SAMP). This Metropolis affiliate has also received support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) so that its total grant now exceeds CDN$9 million. Metropolis Events

Eighth International Metropolis Conference
The Eighth International Metropolis Conference will be held 15-19 September 2003 in Vienna, Austria.  The overall conference theme will be "Gaining From Migration" with an emphasis on how both sending and receiving countries can benefit economically and socially from migration.  The initial call for workshop proposals is now out.  Proposals are due by 31 December 2002.  Please check on-line for the template www.international.metropolis.net

Inter-University Committee on International Migration

Pluralism Project
The Pluralism Project at Harvard University is designed to study and document the growing religious diversity in the United States, with a special view to its new immigrant religious communities.
 
 
 
 
 
 
The project has three primary goals: I) to document some of the changes taking place in America’s cities and towns; II) to begin to study how these religious traditions are changing as they take root in American soil and develop in a new context; and III) to explore how the United States is changing as we begin to appropriate this new religious diversity in our public life and institutions, and in emerging forms of interfaith relationships.
