United Nations
The Population Division of the United Nations Secretariat hosted a coordination meeting on international migration 11-12 July at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The meeting sought to (1) share and exchange information; (2) identify major gaps; and (3) facilitate the coordination of activities.

Metropolis Events

Wollongong

The Metropolis International Steering Committee (ISC) met at the University of Wollongong, Australia in March 2002 following a joint seminar with the Asia-Pacific Migration research Network (APMRN). The APMRN has now formally joined the Metropolis Project and will be represented on the ISC by their director, Dr. Robyn Iredale of the University of Wollongong. Metropolis is extremely pleased by this development and the opportunities it presents for working with researchers and decision makers from throughout the Pacific region.

Seventh International Metropolis Conference

The Seventh International Metropolis Conference took place in Oslo, Norway 9-13 September 2002 with over 650 policymakers, researchers and NGOs from 28 countries around the world. Eighth International Metropolis Conference
The Eighth International Metropolis Conference will be held 15-19 September 2003 in Vienna, Austria.  The overall conference theme will be "Gaining From Migration" with an emphasis on how both sending and receiving countries can benefit economically and socially from migration.  The initial call for workshop proposals is now out.  Proposals are due by 31 December 2002.  Please check on-line for the template www.international.metropolis.net
