USEFUL INFORMATION

Venue
The University of Geneva (Uni-Mail) will be the venue for the 9th Annual Metropolis Conference.
The conference will be held in the new building of Uni Mail, which hosts the Social and Economic Sciences. Situated in the center of Geneva, in a very animated area and easily reachable by public transport. The main meeting rooms are equipped with the latest technical facilities.

Registration and information office

The on-site registration and information office will be open during the following hours:

Monday 27 September: from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Tuesday 28 September: from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm

Wednesday 29 September: from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm

Thursday 30 September: from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm

Friday 1 October: from 8:30 to 2:00 pm

Conference languages
English and French are the official languages of the conference. Simultaneous interpretation (English and French) will be available at the plenary sessions only.

Information about Geneva (sightseeing, cultural events, etc.) is available at: www.geneve-tourisme.ch.

Weather
The climate in Switzerland is moderate with no excessive heat, cold or humidity. In autumn, the daytime temperature range is 8 to 15 °C (46° - 59° F).

Money
The Swiss currency is the Swiss Franc (CHF). One Swiss Franc equals about 0.67 Euro. The banks are open Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 4.30 pm (Wednesdays 5.30 pm). They are closed Saturdays and Sundays. At other times, money can be exchanged at Cornavin Railway Station, the airport and at most hotels.

Passport, visa regulations
Every traveler must have a valid passport. Visas are required for a continuous stay of more than three months. If your stay is shorter than three months you only need to bring your valid passport with you. This applies to citizens of the following countries: countries of the American Continent (except Belize, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Peru), Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Public transport
The public transport system in Geneva is one of the most modern and efficient in Europe, offering 29 urban bus lines, 6 trolley-bus lines and 3 tram lines. The congress venue can be easily reached by bus or by tram from the station or from your hotel.

Please note: the badge of the conferences gives free access to all public transport in Geneva from the 27th of September to the 1st of October.

Airport transfers
The International Airport of Geneva offers direct regular services to more than 80 destinations. One among its advantages is its privileged situation at 4,5 km from the town centre. A rail-link makes it possible to reach the centre in only five minutes. The price of the train ticket is CHF 5.20. You may also take a taxi (approx. CHF 25)

Arriving by train
The trains arrive at Cornavin Railway Station, in the centre of Geneva. From there, you can easily reach the hotels and the conference venue by public transport or by taxi.
