Welcome Reception at the Grand Théâtre de Genève

The Grand Théâtre of Geneva is a majestic building, with its interior and exterior architecture inspired by the Opera House of Paris. The theatre was modernized during its restoration following a fire in 1951. The city of Geneva wishes to present to the Metropolis conference participants this opera house, which is among the most prestigious in all of Europe. The Opera house is only a few steps from the University founded by John Calvin and meters from the famous “Murs des Réformateurs”. A special program reflecting migration, will be performed by
• Lucy Acevedo and The Karimba ensemble
• The Kaboul ensemble
• The Oriental Music ensemble

Special honoured guests will speak at this event, including:
• Mr. Pierre Muller, Mayor of the city of Geneva
• Mr. Robert Cramer, President of the State Council of Geneva
• Ms Micheline Calmy-Rey, Federal Counsellor, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs
• Ms Mamphela Ramphele, co-president of the Global Commission on International Migration

A buffet dinner will be served following the ceremony.

The reception is hosted by the City of Geneva in collaboration with the Republic and Canton of Geneva and the Swiss Confederation.
