Workshop description:

Goals of the workshop:
To discuss the various challenges involved in the confrontation between immigrant groups practicing female genital cutting or mutilation and host communities in societies where this practice is deemed illegal and immoral. To discuss the most useful methods in anti-circumcision work.

Policy relevance and topic: Due to an incread number of refugees to "Vestern" countries of immigrants practicing female genital cutting, the issue have become a political and medical importance in the "vest". The balancing act between respecting an immigrant populations right to preserve their culture, and the need to protect young girls of these immigrants groups from being subjected to FGM is a difficult issue. The sensationalism often pushed forward by "radical feminism" in the "vest" seem often to be counterproductive ratyher than leeding to change.

How international comparisons are included: This topic is relevant in most contries recieving refugees from societies practicing female genital cutting. We would like to discuss various countires various policies, research activities and results.
