Workshop description: The workshop will be a follow up to workshop 46 International Comparative Indicators on Ethnic Discrimination at the 6th International Metropolis conference in Rotterdam. The need for comparative indicators on discrimination (and also on integration) has been made clear in a number of contexts, and the Rotterdam meeting demonstrated the lack of such indicators. We also saw elements of common work going on within some international organisations, like the EUMC. This work, however, does not meet all requirements in research and analysis, in policy making, or in international surveillance bodies. In this workshop, focus will be on indicators on discrimination.
Goals of the workshop: At this workshop, we would like to present a possible content of statistical work, based on an integration of register data and survey data.
Policy relevance and topic: UN and Council of Europe often critizise the countries for not handling the measurement of discrimination properly. A knowledge based policy has to take a comparative approach to the measurement of discrimination, this has to be done on a relative rather than absolute basis.
How international comparisons are included: By involving international agencies, and taking tha comparative dimension as our point of departure.
