Workshop description:
Western, multiethnic societies are on a constant move concerning what it implies for the residents to be part of a multiethnic society. How ethnic minorities and majority are engaging and interacting are of decisive importance for the well-being of all citizens. Of major interest for the future, is how young people of all backgrounds, perceive, relate to and take part in the multiethnic society that is their daily life. Western societies are in different ways striving to find pathways to integrate children and youth. With a comparative look on experiences from different countries with contrasted experiences, positive and negative experiences of practical integration of children and youth will be highlighted, seen from the perspective of ethnic minorities and majority.

Goals of the workshop:
To highlight, discuss and exchange politics, perceptions and practical experiences regarding integration of children and youth in multiethnic societies.

Policy relevance and topic: Integration, the future of liberal, democratic, multiethnic societies.

How international comparisons are included: Contrasted presentations from U.K and Norway

Reference to concerns with policy-making and best practice: The focus of the discussion will be on comparisons and best practices and if and to what degree they are transferable
