Workshop description:
This workshop will bring together researchers, NGOs and policymakers from a number of countries (Australia, Canada, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States) to examine the backlash following the Sept 11 terrorist attacks. It will also examine the community and government responses to the backlash. Presentations of six case studies will occupy the first two hours of the workshop. Each case study will include a description of the backlash, government responses, media coverage, community responses and lessons learned/policy recommendations. The last hour of the workshop will draw participants into a moderated discussion on each of these five areas. The six case studies and an edited version of the discussion will be pulled together in a publication which will be distributed electronically and in paper copies at future events.
