Workshop description: The goals of the workshop are to address research on substance use in relation to multi-ethnic and multi-cultural urban societies, as well as to discuss the implications from current research knowledge on policy making. The workshop will address research on both alcohol and illegal drugs.
We aim at giving a brief overview of the international epidemiological and social research literature on substance use and immigrants, focusing on commonalties and diversities in research perspectives and findings. The need for further research will be discussed.
Findings from on-going projects will be presented. Projects addressing issues of relevance to prevention strategies and treatment policy will be emphasised (e.g. is there evidence to suggest that prevention strategies or treatment modalities should be differentiated according to ethnic and cultural background?).
