Workshop description: The main goal of the workshop is to discuss strategies for integrating the management of diversity into overall management in both public and private-sector organisations. A critical theme throughout the workshop will be whether diversity management can alone be trusted to promote anti-discrimination and employment-equity ends, or whether more traditional strategies are still needed. These questions will be examined and discussed from a gender perspective. International research indicates that the unemployment rates among immigrant women are higher than among immigrant men. Research also indicates that immigrant women more often are offered part-time and unskilled work. How can this be explained? Is this a general consequence of a gendered labour market? Or do we find other (or supplementary) explanations connected to the ethnicity and minority status of immigrant women? These questions will be discussed during the workshop. We also want to focus on good practices – with examples from both the private and public sectors.
Goals of the workshop: (Indicated obove.)
Policy relevance and topic: This topic is of great relevans both for policy makers, labour market institutions and workplaces.
How international comparisons are included: The presentations will be based on international research and show good practices from Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
Reference to concerns with policy-making and best practice: Will be included!
