Workshop description: What is Diversity and Dialogue (D&D)?
Diversity and Dialogue (D&D) is a process-orientated programme. It is based on group dynamics and aimed at awareness raising.
The goal is to work against all forms of racial- and ethnic intolerance, prejudice and discrimination, and to work for participation, representation and respect for all members of the society.
The programme is not moralising. The aim is to challenge the participants to be aware of their own reactions and attitudes by raising questions and seeing things from different perspectives. The encounter with diversity is the encounter with oneself. Focus is placed on the consequences of racism in the society and the consequences for the victims.
Different pedagogical methods are used: music, video, storytelling, role-play etc.
At the end of each seminar (2 days), the participants make a concrete action plan on how to combat racism in their everyday life in the local community, at workplaces, schools, churches etc.
Goals of the workshop: The goal of the workshop is to attempt through parts of the Diversity and Dialogue-programme make the participants a bit more aware their own attitudes, but even more so spread the knowledge and the good experiences the organisations (in addition to NPA these include The Norwegian Youth Council, Church of Norway, Norwegian Red Cross and the Norwegian Union of Teachers) behind D&D in Norway have after using the programme since the mid 1990s. Awareness raising of all citizens, whatever their position in society, has to be an important part of the fight against prejudices and racism all over the world.
